Sport qualifications offer students the chance to develop a wide range of highly desirable transferable skills through practical means.  Cambridge National deliver these skills and understanding, effectively and inspiring students of all abilities to achieve. This course offers learners the opportunity to study key areas of anatomy and physiology linked to fitness, health, injury and performance, the science of training and the applications of the fitness principles. 

Successful candidates should enjoy PE and Sport and are involved with sports teams/training outside of school.

Vocational Based Course
The course will be made up of four units; over three years. Three of the units will be internally assessed via assignments completed in class. One of the assignments will be assessed through a one hour written exam paper.

Process

  • Internally assessed units: The students have to complete various pieces of coursework in order to meet the assessment criteria; this will include report writing, training programmes and extended writing tasks
  • Externally assessed units: the students will be required to complete notes and revision sessions in preparation for their written exam in May/June of Year 10

  • Sport Science Unit RO41 - Reducing the risk of sports injuries (Year 10 - Exam Unit)
  • Sport Science Unit RO43 - The body’s response to physical activity (Year 10 - Coursework task)
  • Sport Science Unit RO45 - Sports nutrition (Year 11 - Coursework task)
  • Sport Science Unit RO42 - Applying principles of training (Year 11 - Coursework task)

 

 

Post-16 Choices
Successful completion of the Cambridge National course at a Merit standard will allow students to progress to either the BTEC level 3 or A-level courses. This course is great for pupils who are looking to work in the sport or fitness industry, including a fitness instructor, personal trainer, physiotherapist, PE teacher or Sports Coach
