Early Finish Transport Arrangements

Where possible students should try to arrange for a lift home. All contract buses/coaches will be at the rear coach park at 2.15pm ready to depart at 2.30pm.

  • 611 (Caterham) will only run at the end of the day
  • 609 (South Godstone, Blindley Heath, East Grinstead) will only run at the end of the day
  • 612 (South Nutfield, Smallfield and Burstow) will only run at the end of the day

Metrobus is a timetabled public service; therefore, students may need to make alternative arrangements for getting home. The following buses run from Oxted, but they are likely to be over-subscribed:

  • 410 (Godstone, Bletchingley and Nutfield) departs outside Pizza Express at 2.29pm
  • 410 (Hurst Green) departs outside Sainsbury’s at 2.30pm
  • 594 (Limpsfield Chart/Westerham) – departs at 2.37pm outside Sainsbury’s
  • 595 departs outside Sainsbury’s at 1.37pm
  • No Tatsfield option, 695 end of school only

Students who are unable to make alternative arrangements, should go to the library until the usual departure time of 3.15pm. They should make sure they have brought sufficient homework, reading or revision materials to occupy them for this period.

Helping young people to understand what vapes are and their impact

You will have seen in the national press that vapes have become, for some young people an important part of their lives. Like all schools, we are seeing this at Oxted and are working hard to help our students to understand the impacts of vaping and the consequences of bringing them into school.

You will also be aware from articles in the news that vape juice containing THC is now being used by young people. Please use this link for more information on not only vapes but also vape juice containing THC.

By working together, we will be able to ensure that students at Oxted are safe.

Student Drop Off

Parents and carers are reminded the Barn Theatre and URC car parks should not be used for dropping off or pick up.  Please drop off and arrange to meet your child in one of the side roads off Bluehouse Lane.

Please also be mindful that the access to the back of school via Park Road, should not be blocked in the morning. Staff arriving to school are unfortunately being held up by parents/carers dropping students, either along Park Road or just in front of the access to school.  If you must drop your child at school, please use an alternative stopping place.

Thank you for your support in ensuring our students are safe on their way to and from school.

Uniform

A polite reminder that our uniform expectations can be found on our school website here

Please note students should be in their full school uniform, correctly worn each day, unless we have a MUFTI Day. We have a rise in students wearing faux fur style jackets to school – these are not permitted and should not be worn to school.

RAG Week

Our Sixth Form will be hosting daily fundraising activities for their chosen charity, Clockwork, as well as Sixth Form resources. Clockwork is our well utilised school-based Counselling group, who offer students free counselling to support with their mental health. They have gone above and beyond for our students, and we cannot wait to show our appreciation.

Activities for each Year Group, all led by Sixth Form students and staff, will be taking place during lunchtimes for students, they will need some cash with them to take part! They will have the opportunity to 'pay to play' on their Year Group day, as well as their own Year MUFTI day:

  • Friday 22 March - Year 11
  • Monday 25 March - Year 10
  • Tuesday 26 March - Year 9
  • Wednesday 27 March - Year 8
  • Thursday 28 March - Year 7
  • Sixth Form - Daily fancy dress themes

Sixth Form students will be asked to purchase a wristband for £2 which gives them permission to wear fancy dress all week and attend any Sixth Form staff events. They can either pay via Scopay or bring change to the Sixth Form Office.

Year 7-Year 11 students, who take part in their Year MUFTI Day, we ask for a minimum donation of £1, which will go to Clockwork. Payment can be made via the online payment system using your Scopay log in details. There will be an option to make a bigger donation if you would like to.

In previous years, RAG Week has been a huge success and brings the Oxted School community together as a whole; we are excited to get all students involved and look forward to updating you on the events that take place.

Reminder: Communicating with Oxted School

School life is very busy, and we are not always able to reply to emails straight away. However, we will aim to respond to your email within 2 working days.

Parent meetings with staff are by appointment only, and normally require 2 working days’ notice. If you wish to speak to a member of staff, in person, please contact them directly to book an appointment.

Our staff work very hard, and it is important that they are allowed to have a personal life as well. We are encouraging staff to try and have a better work/life balance. Therefore, please be aware that they are unlikely to look at emails before 7.30am and after 6.00pm during the week, and not at all at weekends or during holidays.

Communication Summary
If you have a concern, it is always best to go to the Head of Department or the Head of Faculty rather than directly to the teacher. The concern can then be investigated and resolved for you.

Please copy our Communications Officer Mrs Kent (claire.kent@oxted.thpt.org.uk) into the emails that you send. This helps us to have an overview of what is happening across the school.

If you are upset by something which has happened at school and want to contact us to get the problem sorted out, we would ask that you ‘count to 10’ before writing and sending your email, and please make sure the tone and content of the email are professional and objective.

We understand that your child’s education can be a highly emotional subject, but it is important that our staff do not receive any overly personal, accusatory, or aggressive emails. These will be automatically forwarded to a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Contacting your child during the day

We are seeing a small but increasing number of students who are using their phones to contact their families during the day, for example to arrange to be collected if they are not feeling well.

We have a zero tolerance on mobile phones and the trend is leading to some challenging yet avoidable situations. Please do not message or call your child during school hours.

If you need to contact your child, please phone the school and we will pass on the message. If your child needs to contact you, they should go to their Year Team. Thank you for your cooperation.

Attendance

The vast majority of students have made an excellent start this year and we are delighted that most students’ attendance is looking very positive. We would like to take this opportunity to remind parents of the importance of attendance at school and remind you to please telephone the school to alert us to your child’s absence for every day that they are off. Any days which are not accounted for by you (via telephone or email) will be counted as unauthorised absence.

As per Surrey County Council guidance, we will also issue fixed penalty notices (which can lead to fixed penalty fines) for extended periods of unauthorised absence. Please see the attached letter from Surrey County Council for more information about fixed penalty fines.

If you have any queries regarding attendance at Oxted School, please do contact our attendance team (attendance@oxted.thpt.org.uk) or Miss Bergamo, Assistant Principal and Attendance Lead (alexis.bergamo@oxtedthpt.org.uk)

Book Donations

We are supporting Heart Breakfast and the Children's Book Project by running a Book Drive in celebration of World Book Day.

If you are able to donate any pre-loved books, please drop them at Reception.  Books are then donated to children in need, giving them the opportunity to discover the joy of book ownership.

Free Sanitary Products

As you may be aware, we have always provided a range of sanitary products for our young people at Oxted School. We have a constant supply of pads and tampons in our Pupil Welfare Office (PWO), as well as smaller supplies within each Year Team Office, so there is availability across the site.

We are now pleased to be able to offer and provide small packs of supplies to take home if needed. If you would be interested in collecting a small pack, please contact our Pupil Welfare Office (pupilwelfare@oxted.thpt.org.uk) or Mrs Mullen (kim.mullen@oxted.thpt.org.uk)

Access to School Site – Out of Hours

There have been recent incidents whereby students are accessing the school site out of hours to play football on the Astro.  Please would you remind your child the school site is not open to students out of hours in the evenings, at weekends and during the holidays as we cannot guarantee or be responsible for their safety.
