Feedback books

Promoting independence and use of wider vocabulary


Regular discussion of additional reading that is promoted to students
The department also lends books to students to promote additional reading

Promoting reading for pleasure


Homework will include:  

  • Students will read a mini story about a programming concept, to which they will complete a comprehension task explaining what concept they have learnt with regards to the story

Three new texts will be promoted they focus on Computational Thinking in a very creative way:

  1. Computational Fairy Tales
  2. Best Practices of Spell Design
  3. The Hidden Language of Computer Hardware and Software. CODE

Times Children’s Literacy Competition
Mrs Seymour is entering this with ‘The BFG’ and her Year 10 Drama class.  The Times newspaper are looking for a ‘brilliant and enthusiastic 14-18 year old guest judge for our Times/Chicken House Children’s Fiction Competition’
(Competition requires a short video promoting a buzz around a chosen text - Year 10 choose ‘The BFG’)

‘Read Around Science’ - Year 7

Classes are taken to the library for part of a lesson where the librarians lay out their ‘popular Science’ selection of books. The children each choose a book and are given a bookmark to chart their reading.  Once they have told the librarian three things they have learnt, they collect a stamp. They then have the option to read another book for a chance to get more stamps
