This exciting course is for students who want to develop their creative skills using a variety of media and explore their ideas visually. They will experiment with different ways of recording from drawing and painting to sculpture and print and use contextual influences to inform their work and inspire them. They will study and write about artists work and develop ideas. We enable students to work with increasing independence, producing their own responses which have been developed over a period of time. Students must work consistently and take risks with their work and ideas. 

Students will learn key skills in recording, developing ideas, experimenting and refining work to enable to produce strong projects at GCSE. They will practice with a variety of media and study key artists to help the develop ideas. 

Projects 

Learning to develop ideas and refine recording

  • Term 1 – Drawing work shops and Cubism
  • Term 2 - Landscapes – David Hockney 
  • Term 3 - Portraiture

Assessment Objectives
All projects are marked on four assessment objectives each are worth 25% of each project mark. 

  1. Developing ideas
  2. Experimenting and refining
  3. Recording
  4. Final piece

Sketchbook and loose portfolio of work will be developed throughout 9 and a selection of this work will be used in their GCSE books.

 

Post-16 Choices
Typical career paths include artist, designer, illustrator, interior designer, textile designer, theatre set designer, art therapist, artist-in-residence, printmaker and book illustrator.
